Acrobatics for Dancers
An essential class for all dancers. Ballet develops precise muscle control and coordination. Proper alignment, elegance, and lines of the body are emphasized.
Students will learn contemporary jazz, classical jazz, and theatrical jazz. Foundation principles of jazz will be covered including cross lateral connection, isolations, explosive jumps, musicality, lines of the body, strength, turning, proper alignment, precision, and increased performance quality. Dancers will become strong technicians and excellent performers.
This course is designed to reveal and inspire the inner artist. Through improvisation and choreography exercises students will build their artistic voice, gain self-confidence, express their individuality, develop their own personalized movement vocabulary, become comfortable with improvisation both alone and in groups, familiarize themselves with contact improvisation, learn critical problem solving skills, choreograph original works of art, and both learn and apply principles of choreography. Students will take what they learn and create a solo which they will performed in the end of the year showcase. Students will need to bring a notebook to class.
Brake Dance is a style of acrobatic dancing originating in the mid-1970s, often performed to rap music usually by teenage males in the streets, and characterized by intricate footwork, pantomime, spinning headstands, tumbling, and elaborate improvised virtuosic movements.
Tap is a classic style of dance which is a fun, upbeat and intricate. It focuses on rhythm, syncopation and precision.
This is a perfect class for dancers to learn essential tricks to add to their dances. Dancers will learn aerials, front hand springs, back hand springs and more!
Contemporary dance is total body exploration, revealing all the possibilities of movement the human body has to offer. Head tail, cross-lateral, core distal, and body-half connections are emphasized. Contemporary dance is creative, artistic, challenging, and cutting edge. Principles of modern dance, specifically Cunningham, Graham, and Horton technique are emphasized. Dancers will become excellent movers, technicians, and artists. Body positioning, floor-work, inversions, stalls, jumps, partner work, body fluidity, dynamic alignment, and total body connectivity are emphasized. It is highly encouraged that dancers have taken ballet and lyrical prior to taking contemporary, due to its high level of difficulty and intricacy.
Lyrical is a fusion of Ballet and Jazz and is an excellent and preferred preparatory course for contemporary dance. Lines of the body, proper alignment, turns, leaps, full body movement, floor work, musicality, emotive movement, and splashes of contemporary movement are emphasized. Lyrical allows dancers to express emotions and tell a story through elegant movement.
This course is aimed to give children a taste of Jazz dance while allowing them to learn a vast amount of movement as well as explore their own creativity through improvisation. Basic footwork, positions of the feet, isolations, and jazz technique is covered. Gross motor movement is explored as well as basic Acrobatics. Participants will leave this course with increased coordination, self-confidence, and muscle control.
This course will help dancers perfect their turns, leaps, and other essential core elements of dance technique. All dancers are highly encouraged to take this course.
Exploring, creating, critical thinking, and an increased kinesthetic awareness is what dancers gain from creative movement. Participants are in a safe environment where they can express themselves and increase their coordination. Creative movement emphasizes basic positions of the feet, introductory ballet and jazz technique, locomotor and non-locomotor movement, learning of different body parts, bound flow, free flow, and problem solving exercises. Curriculum is based around numbers, the alphabet, different animals, insects, plants, history, weather, and other basic concepts that can inspire movement.
Acrobatics increases balance, motor control, and strength. Acrobatics is an extremely useful skill to have as a dancer. Participants will learn walkovers, cartwheels, elbow stands, head stands, and countless other acrobatic movements.
Mixture of several street dance styles including break dance, popping, locking, and many other intricate styles.
This 30 min ballet class is designed for preschoolers. Students will learn basic ballet technique and dance class etiquette. Students will foster their creativity through using props and participating in movement games.
Private lessons are a fantastic opportunity for students to receive further individualized feedback beyond class time. 30, 45 and 60 minute lessons are offered.
